MedBioinformatics Solutions SL is a spin-off whose purpose is to unlock the potential of genomics for healthcare and pharmaceutical R&D. Our knowledge platform is constantly integrating innovative data to bring valuable information to scientists, health care practitioners and decision makers.
Our compromise towards excellence and data quality arises from our shareholders and their ten years of work at the Integrated Biomedical Informatics group of the Research Programme in Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) of the IMIM and the UPF in Barcelona.

Francesco Ronzano – Machine learning and NLP expert
Francesco Ronzano is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Integrative Biomedical Informatics Group (IBI), part of the Research Programme in Biomedical Informatics (GRIB – IMIM-UPF). He completed the Ph.D. in Information Engineering at the Università di Pisa in collaboration with the Institute of Informatics and Telematics (IIT-CNR). Before joining the IBI Group, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Natural Language Processing Group (TALN) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He investigates Machine Learning and Statistical Approaches for Natural Language Processing with special focus on the analysis of scientific literature, clinical texts and social media contents.

Ferran Sanz – Co-founder and Advisor
Ferran Sanz is chemical engineer by the Institut Quimic de Sarrià (Barcelona) and PhD by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is Professor of Biostatistics and Biomedical Informatics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), scientific staff of the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM) and Director of the IMIM-UPF Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB) since 1985. Dr. Sanz is the author of more than 150 articles and supervisor of 20 PhD theses. He is the international coordinator of 10 EU-funded initiatives and a STOA report for the European Parliament. Currently, he is the academic coordinator of an IMI (Innovative Medicines Initiative) project on the in silico prediction of drug toxicity (eTRANSAFE). He is also a partner in other ongoing IMI projects (TransQST and FAIRplus) and H2020 projects (EU-ToxRisk and FAIRplus). Chair of the ELIXIR Board, co-president of the Spanish Technology Platform on Innovative Medicines (PTEMI) and vice-president of Bioinformatics Barcelona Association (BIB).
Dr. Laura I. Furlong – Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer
Laura I. Furlong is head of the Integrative Biomedical Informatics Group of the Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics, GRIB (IMIM-UPF) and associate professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). She has a PhD in Biology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Msc in Bioinformatics by University Pompeu Fabra. With more than 10 years of experience in translational bioinformatics, one of her main interests is to translate cutting edge bioinformatics research into real world clinical and industrial applications. Her current research is focused in the areas of systems medicine and systems toxicology, text mining and knowledge management. Director of 4 doctoral theses. She has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles. She has participated in several FP7 projects (@neurist, EU-ADR), IMI projects like OpenPHACTS, eTOX, EMIF and H2020 projects like MedBioinformatics. She is currently involved in the IMI projects FAIRplus, eTRANSAFE and transQST.
